“Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization."
– Mahatma Gandhi
The diversification of the workplace has become an increasingly relevant topic for companies worldwide. However, it is essential to understand that diversifying the workplace is not just about recruiting employees from different races or genders. A comprehensive approach involves including individuals from a wide variety of categories, such as social class, religion, sexual orientation, competencies, and cultural characteristics. This is where Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) come into play.
What is DEI?
DEI is an acronym that stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Diversity refers to the existence of differences within a specific environment, equity means providing each person with the same opportunity to succeed, and inclusion promotes a sense of identity and belonging in the workplace. An inclusive work environment attracts a diverse group of talented workers, allowing them to express their uniqueness and contribute to innovation and change, which can lead to a competitive advantage for companies.
DEI in the workplace
Recent studies show that 78% of workers believe there is not enough diversity in leadership positions in the companies they work for.
The lack of diversity in a company's leadership team not only hinders creativity but also fails to meet customer expectations and prevents members of underrepresented groups from being acknowledged for their efforts. Thus, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is crucial, not only from an ethical standpoint but also for the success of a company's business.
So Diversum: So Fare Films’ DEI model
At So Fare Films, we believe in the importance of diversifying the film industry. Our long-term mission is to foster a welcoming and inclusive workplace that promotes teamwork and discussion between people of different ages, genders, nationalities, races, and cultures. To achieve this goal, we have created the Emerging Creators Network, which provides resources to current students to explore their creativity while enhancing their skills.
Moreover, we are developing products that will not only teach but also help out individuals from different backgrounds and experiences learn from one another, break down barriers, and promote a more diverse and inclusive workplace. All that under the catchy name So Diversum.
In a globalized world, teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion prepares individuals to work and interact with people from different cultures, social groups, and with different opinions. We believe that promoting DEI is not only the right thing to do but also beneficial to the success of our business and the film industry. We will continue to follow our mission to diversify the film industry and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplace and beyond.
